Rostock - Prague 2009
The exciting bike tour from Rostock to Prague took place from the 4th to 11th of July 2009 (60 participants, 800 kilometres). Highlights of the tour were the entry to Berlin with a police escort, the crossing of Saxon Switzerland and the arrival in Prague.
- All participants met at the hotel in the old port city of Rostock on the Baltic Sea on the evening of 4 July to welcome each other and to get to know each other.
- The next morning, the tour began with the first destination in the town of Waren, 130 km away, which is situated on the Möritzsee - the largest lake in Germany. The Möritz National Park is home to many bird species (especially several species of the osprey).
- From Waren, the route led over the Mecklenburg Lake District to Ravensbrück (approx. 90 km). This popular tourist destination is known as "Germany's land of 1,000 lakes" and is characterised by successfully restored Baroque and North German Gothic architecture.
- On our third day we drove from the "quiet country" to one of the most hectic cities in Europe - Berlin (about 110 km). A police escort secured the route and made an unforgettable entrance to the capital possible.
- From Berlin we went on to the Elbe, which we met in Lutherstadt Wittenberg (120 km). On the way there we drove through Potsdam, the residence of the Prussian kings and a UNESCO world heritage site.
- The fifth day was the longest: 145 km along the Elbe from Lutherstadt Wittenberg to Meissen. Meissen, famous for its porcelain, has several sights, for example Albrechtsburg Castle above the Elbe.
- From Meissen we continued to Usti nad Labem in the Czech Republic (120 km). During this trip we passed Dresden, which is known as the "Florence of Germany". From Dresden, the Elbe river leads through the sandstone hills of the national park "Saxon Switzerland".
On our last day we drove from Usti nad Labem to Prague (125 km). We left the Elbe in Melnik and followed the Vltava River to Prague, which has a world-famous medieval city centre.
